After the successful start of Benjamin the elephant, Elfie Donnelly developed the first stories for storytellers centered around the little witch, Bibi Blocksberg. Just like Benjamin the elephant, Bibi Blocksberg turned out to be one of the most popular licensed characters for children on the German speaking market. The connection between normal everyday life and the fantastic world of witches has a strong fascination for girls. The 13 year old Bibi Blocksberg is a completely normal, cheeky, smart girl with a strong sense of justice and she can do witchcraft! She is full of funny ideas and concocts funny pranks and flies through the air on her witches’ broom „Apple-Pie. And when problems crop up, these are solved by Bibi with shrewdness or witchcraft.

Since Bibi’s introduction 27 years ago more than 90 storytellers have been produced and more than 43 million copies sold.

Bibi Blocksberg holds the 3rd place of the most popular German speaking TV programs among 6 to 9 year old girls (iconkids & youth 2007).

In 1996 the first monthly Bibi Blocksberg Magazine by the Egmont Ehapa Publishing Company appeared that till today still ranks among the best known German speaking magazines for girls.

On the 26th September 2002 the first live action Bibi-Blocksberg feature film was released in the cinema. With more than 2.2 million viewers it was the most successful German feature film that year. It was also awarded the Bavarian Film Prize for the best German production in 2002. Corinne Harfouch received the German Film Prize 2003 for best supporting actress.

Since November 2003, Bibi Blocksberg has taken musical theatres by storm in German speaking territories and with 400.000 visitors it is the most successful German speaking musical to date for children and families.

The second feature film was launched on the 30th of September 2004: „Bibi Blocksberg and the Secret of the Blue Owls” with audience figures of more than 1.2 million.

On the 13th October 2007 the second musical »Bibi Blocksberg and the Bewitched Treasure« had its premiere in Berlin and has been on tour since then.

Since 1997 Bibi Blocksberg can be regularly seen on ZDF and KI.KA in 26 half hour animated episodes.
